The South East Asian conflict is at an end.
Servicemen in their thousands have been returned home on the orders of President Eisenhower, to be freed from their military responsibilities in order to build a new America.
New technologies, born from the unused nuclear deterrent that had brought to a close the Second World War, promise employment and prosperity for all and usher in a new age.
The science of the nuclear bomb, bolstered by the tripartite agreements drawn up between the East, the West and Japan at the end of the Second World War, has given rise to new industries; Atomic energy, and subsequently the harnessing of electromagnetic radiation and the Newton Gear, which has revolutionized transport into the mid twentieth century.
But the double edged sword of industrial efficiency combined with the aftermath of the world financial crash of 1952 sees many of those servicemen with need for employment. A need which, in its turn unfulfilled, gives rise to huge increases in crime and the reemergence of the gangland culture to levels unheard of since the Twenties and Thirties.
Into this atmosphere of increasing lawlessness are born the masked vigilantes.
Tolerated by an impossibly stretched police, working outside legal obligations, these individuals will ultimately hold the balance in their hands – the balance between stability – and chaos.
